The Mother Road Chronicles: Reclaiming Route 66 on Two Wheels
There is a primal magic in throwing your leg over a motorcycle, tuning out the noise of the modern world, and letting the open road swallow you whole. But when that road is Route 66—the iconic “Mother Road” of American lore—a motorcycle trip stops being just a vacation. It becomes a pilgrimage.
A crew of close friends recently traded their daily grinds for the rumble of Harley-Davidson engines, embarking on an epic cross-country trek along this historic highway. From torrential downpours and catastrophic mechanical failures to quirky roadside characters and breathtaking desert sunsets, this trip had it all. It was the quintessential breakdown of three separate stators, however, that permanently branded the crew with their new title: The Stator Haters. Grab your helmet, because we’re taking you along for the ride.
The Crew and the Cast of Characters
Every great road movie needs a memorable crew, and this one was split into two riding groups making their way to a grand rendezvous:
- Mike & Andy Dean: The early birds, logistics coordinators, mechanical experts, and accidental burger connoisseurs.
- Billy (Pete) & Blake: The father-and-son duo who braved the elements (and a relentless wall of Missouri bugs) to make the connection.
- Melissa & Bridgette: Billy’s wife Melissa and daughter Bridgette joined our crew in Albuquerque, braved needling rain and I-40, and rode with us to Las Vegas.
